Big Business Vs. Small Business Vs. Home Business Mentalities
Within business, a lot of what you'll discover is that people have different mindsets based on what type of business they are working in. With those unique attributes to each type of business come the types of people that flourish within each.
Big Business
Big Businesses typically employ people who are simply at work for a paycheck. The employees get very little joy out of the work they do, and don't care about what happens to the company, as long as they still have their job. Although comedic, this quote from the movie Office Space is appropriate for the "Big Business" mentality.
"It's a problem of motivation, all right? Now if I work my tail off and XYZ company ships a few extra units, I don't see another dime; so where's the motivation?"
The type of people that flourish within this type of business are typically hard working individuals concerned solely with furthering their position in the company.
Small Business
Small Businesses typically employ people who are versatile and well-rounded workers. They don't expect a big paycheck because the company is growing, but they do expect compensation (equity, options, etc.) down the road. Unfortunately this is the least stable type of business and frequently the equity never materializes.
The type of people that flourish are usually hard working, flexible, visionaries. They are willing to put in long hours for little pay, hoping for a big pay off down the road. They are risk-takers and idealists.
Home Business
Home Businesses owners are typically people who don't like to answer to anyone. They are independent, self-sufficient, and are responsible. They are good at managing their time, their priorities, and their obligations. They value their time and their family, and are very flexible in what they do and when. These are people that enjoy what they do and look forward to building their home based business and making it work within the frame of their life.
